ThreadWorks deal with the fragility and transience of language and interpretation. I collaborate with published authors, using fragments of their texts, sometimes in combination with my own, to create a new sculptured text that is open to the interpretation (and frustration) of each viewer.
The “Fragment Series” are incomplete sections of text, inspired by Ann Carson’s work If Not, Winter, a collection of recovered fragments from Sappho’s scrolls. “Dirty Love Poems” are risqué poems encoded with desire, perversion, beauty, absence, and ambiguity. The “Ode Series” reinscribes texts that focus on language itself - reading, writing, storytelling, and interpretation are all focal subjects for these works. Threadworks are inherently partial, wholes made of holes, created through a process of sampling, piecing, and dissolving.
